Back to School Books Linky Party and Giveaway

Yay! My fave... Children's Books!
A few years ago I picked up a really cute book called the Little School Bus.
My first graders love it.
The book is a simple rhyming book and we get really
into it and add a little tune to the read aloud.
They ask for a reread every day the first week.

                                                                                      CleverSchoolTeacher

This is another cute book and I read it the first day of school and add a writing activity.

                                                                                         Clever School Teacher

This year I plan on doing a Kevin Henkes author study and this classic is on my list.

                                                                                        Clever School Teacher

and every summer for some personal PD I like to skim through this great teacher resource.

Therapeutic Thursday

These are just some of the things I do to unwind and stay sane.

I love a good bubble bath.

Some Cava goes a long way.
The bubbles make me happy and reminds me of a wonderful trip to Spain.

TV! I love watching tv.
Take me away House Hunters International.
The hubby and I watch all the time and have fun planning our next trip or future home!

Where I Teach Wednesday

Hola! I stopped by my classroom on the way to have a nice lunch with my daughter and snapped a few pics. My school is in the suburbs of NY and I am in an older building (much older) so I have to make the most of my space. Believe me it does not compare to some of your beautiful modern classrooms. So here it goes...
In memory of Maurice Sendak(my daughter's fave author) ! My firsties will make All About Me
little monsters using a glyph. I'll post them when they are done!

Reading Corner/Meeting Area (double duty)
Thanks to First Grade Parade for the daily number practice idea. I have the schedule cards too (still cutting/laminating them.
Meeting Area/Word Work/Math Stations

Listening Center
New and improved: Double duty files and felt board, Etsy containers from Target hold all of my books on tape/CD. Love, love, love!
Decals are from HomeGoods and they peel off.
Writing Center and Word Wall to the left. That's where I store my Words on the Go/Personal dictionaries in library pockets and other fun writing stuff.

Glad you stopped by room 17! Click below to continue the Wednesday Blog Hop!

First Linky Party!

Blog Hoppin' is hosting a What the Teacher Wants Linky Party.

Here it goes- My 5 fave must haves for the beginning of school.

1. Brand new juicy, yummy Mr. Sketch markers. I can't live without them. I get a new pack every few months and I have a set at home and one at school. Love, love them!
2. Next up is a purple teacher planner from Barnes and Noble (and I get to use my teacher discount). I love the two pockets for stuff. However this year I am going to try a teacher binder. But I picked up this handy simple planner just in case the binder situation doesn't work for me.
3. I always have to get a new pack of medium point pens in lots of juicy colors. They have to be medium point! Every year I get a different kind so no pics yet.

4. Oh how I love Jelly Belly jellybeans. So I buy some to put in my need a sugar pick me up jar. Another fave is Yummy Earth Organic lollipops and mints. Yummmm! You have to try Chili Lime Lambada.

5. Last but not least I get a new dress or outfit. (still loooking) I did get a cool new messenger bag in May and I can't wait to rock it out some more this year. Drum roll... Timbuk2 http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/ makes the coolest bags and the best thing is you get to design it. Of course my bag is turquoise my fave color.
Turquoise helps me to hold on to a bit of summer all year long.

Well that's all folks have a great, magical back to school.
Tag you're it! What are your favorite back to school finds?

Teachers Rock!

Wow, did any one catch Teachers Rock! last night? The music was amazing but even more touching were the teachers that were honored and the stars remembering teachers that have inspired them. Tear, tear! We have such an important role in our students lives. Notice I did not say job. I don't believe teaching is a job. Yes, we get overwhelmed with the paper work, APPR, common core etc... but teaching is what I do and I love it.

Oh and I finished my second freebie: Halloween Word Wall file folder coming to my TPT shop real soon.

I'm back!

Hola! I have been super busy! After a nice long vacation on a beach in Mexico I came back to reality. I have been getting my room ready for my firsties with great ideas from all of the blogs I have been following obsessively. My new hobby is learning all about blogging and getting my first freebie ready.

Oh and did I mention both of my girls are home now. Yes... one is home for about 2 weeks before heading back to college and my oldest is learning about the realities of life after college. So what does this all mean for me? Well my peaceful summer is almost over! I am very excited about meeting my new kiddos. I will be posting my class pics real soon. 2 1/2 weeks to go!
